SMART WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM USING IOT: A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
Rapid urbanization and population growth have significantly increased municipal solid waste (MSW), creating serious environmental and public health challenges. Traditional waste management systems are inefficient, resource-intensive, and lack real-time monitoring capabilities. This paper proposes an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart waste management system that enables real-time monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and optimized waste collection. The system integrates sensors, communication networks, and cloud platforms to improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, and promote sustainability. The study highlights system architecture, technologies, benefits, challenges, and future directions. The findings demonstrate that IoT-enabled waste management can significantly contribute to sustainable urban development.
