BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION
Abstract
Abstract: Biodiversity is the foundation of ecological stability, human well-being, and sustainable development. However, climate change is increasingly threatening biodiversity through rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, extreme weather events, sea-level rise, habitat degradation, and the expansion of climate-sensitive diseases. At the same time, healthy ecosystems such as forests, wetlands, mangroves, grasslands, and coral reefs can strengthen society’s capacity to adapt to climate change. Biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation are therefore closely interconnected. This research paper examines the relationship between biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation, identifies major threats to biodiversity, and analyses ecosystem-based approaches that can improve climate resilience. It also discusses the role of protected areas, restoration, sustainable resource management, community participation, and policy interventions. The paper concludes that integrating biodiversity conservation with climate adaptation strategies can provide ecological, social, and economic benefits while supporting sustainable development. Keywords: Biodiversity, Conservation, Climate Change, Adaptation, Ecosystem Resilience, Ecosystem-Based Adaptation, Sustainable Development
