Abstract

Abstract: The rapid expansion of e-learning platforms has transformed the education sector by providing flexible, accessible, and personalized learning opportunities to students worldwide. Despite the increasing popularity of online education, low course completion rates continue to be a major concern for e-learning providers. Many learners enroll in online courses but fail to complete them due to declining motivation, lack of engagement, competing priorities, and limited interaction throughout the learning process. To address these challenges, educational institutions and online learning platforms are increasingly adopting gamified engagement techniques and retargeting advertisements as innovative strategies to encourage continuous participation and improve learner retention. This study examines the role of gamification elements, including points, badges, leaderboards, rewards, and progress tracking, along with personalized retargeting advertisements, in enhancing learner engagement and course completion rates. Based on secondary data collected from academic journals, industry reports, and digital marketing literature, the study finds that integrating gamification with data-driven retargeting campaigns significantly increases learner motivation, participation, and persistence in online courses. The findings suggest that these complementary strategies not only improve course completion rates but also enhance learner satisfaction, reduce dropout behavior, and contribute to the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of e-learning platforms.
