  • Pooja Kumari

Abstract

Imidazole derivatives are a class of heterocyclic compounds with significant chemical versatility and wide-ranging biological activities. This paper explores the synthesis, chemical properties, and biological implications of imidazole derivatives, with a focus on their antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties. The chemistry of imidazole derivatives, including their protonation behavior, tautomerism, and electron-donating/withdrawing effects, is examined to understand their reactivity and stability. Furthermore, the interactions of these compounds with biological targets, their structure-activity relationships (SAR), and their potential as pharmaceutical agents are discussed. The paper also reviews the pharmacokinetics, toxicological profiles, and recent advancements in the development of imidazole-based drugs. This review highlights the promising future of imidazole derivatives in drug discovery and medical applications, particularly in the areas of enzyme inhibition, targeted therapies, and novel drug delivery systems. Keywords: Imidazole derivatives, heterocyclic compounds, synthesis, biological activity, antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, structure-activity relationship, pharmacokinetics, drug discovery, enzyme inhibition, drug delivery systems.
