DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE ATTRIBUTE-BASED SECURITY FRAMEWORKS FOR IOT DEVICES

  • Sudhanshu Shekhar

Abstract

The rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has brought significant advancements in connectivity and automation across industries. However, this proliferation of IoT devices has introduced critical security concerns, particularly in managing the authentication, access control, and data integrity across diverse and often resource-constrained devices. Traditional security models struggle to meet the unique requirements of IoT environments, necessitating the development of more adaptable, scalable, and context-aware security mechanisms. This paper proposes an Attribute-Based Security (ABS) framework tailored for IoT devices, emphasizing the use of device-specific attributes such as identity, location, and trust level to govern access control decisions. The paper explores the design, challenges, and potential solutions for implementing ABS in IoT systems, aiming to enhance security without compromising device performance. Through a discussion of real-world applications and case studies, this paper highlights the practical benefits and limitations of ABS in securing IoT networks and presents future directions for improving the robustness and scalability of these frameworks. Keywords: Internet of Things (IoT), Attribute-Based Security (ABS), IoT Security, Access Control, Device Authentication, Context-Aware Security, Trust Management, Scalability.
